Wind tunnels reproduce the various aerodynamic and aeroacoustic phenomena which vehicles are subjected to, offering modern, effective testing resources to help engineers cut fuel consumption and improve safety.

 

Aeroacoustic wind tunnels provide uniform wind conditions, similar to pure aerodynamic wind tunnels except that the background noise levels are reduced in order for the wind noise to be correctly measured without contamination.

Major noise sources like the air fan should be powerful and quiet at the same time. The open jet stream in the test section can create an even higher noise level so a carefully design must combine a sufficient aerodynamic situation with an excellent acoustic performance. In order to achieve free-field conditions, both our PK CAR-System and the PK wedge type system can be applied.
